چکیده

Stereo data collected by the HiRes experiment over a six year period are examined for largescale anisotropy related to the inhomogeneous distribution of matter in the nearby Universe. We consider the generic case of small cosmic-ray deflections and a large number of sources tracing the matter distribution. In this matter tracer model the expected cosmic ray flux depends essentially on a single free parameter, the typical deflection angle θs. We find that the HiRes data with threshold energies of 40 EeV and 57 EeV are incompatible with the matter tracer model at a 95% confidence level unless θs > 10 ◦ and are compatible with an isotropic flux. The data set above 10 EeV is compatible with both the matter tracer model and an isotropic flux. The Search for Anisotropy in the Arrival Directions of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays Observed by the High Resolution Fly’s Eye Detector in Monocular Mode

The High Resolution Fly’s Eye HiRes-I detector has now been in operation in monocular mode for over six years. During that time span, HiRes-I has accumulated a larger exposure to Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECRs) above 10 eV than any other experiment built to date. This presents an unprecedented opportunity to search for anisotropy in the arrival directions of UHECRs. We present results of...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Search for Intermediate-Scale Anisotropy by the HiRes Experiment

The HiRes collaboration has searched for intermediate-scale anisotropy of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays in two ways: first a search for variation with declination of the flux of cosmic rays, and second in their arrival directions. The data of the HiRes-II detector was used in the search.

In the past few years, small scale anisotropy has become a primary focus in the search for source of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECRs). The Akeno Giant Air Shower Array (AGASA) has reported the presence of clusters of event arrival directions in their highest energy data set. The High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) has accumulated an exposure in one of its monocular eyes at energies above 10...

Search for Large-Scale Anisotropy of Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Rays with HiRes Stereo Data

We have searched for correlations between the pointing directions of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays in the data of the High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) collaboration, and local large scale structure. The HiRes stereo data set (the same used to search for AGN correlations [1]) was used in the search, and the 2 Micron All-Sky Redshift Survey (2MRS) was used to determine the density of galaxies in ...

Anisotropy studies of ultra - high energy cosmic rays as observed by the High Resolution Fly ’ s Eye ( HiRes )

Although the existence of cosmic rays with energies extending to 320 EeV has been confirmed , their origin remains one of the most important questions in particle astrophysics research today. The High–Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) is the largest aperture detector currently collecting data from ultra-high energy cosmic ray events. We present for the first time anisotropy studies from monocular an...
